Since 1998, Ewa Puʻuloa Outrigger Canoe Club (EPOCC) has proudly carried forward the traditions of Hawaiian outrigger canoe paddling in the ʻEwa District of Oʻahu.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and proud OHCRA member, we are dedicated to developing youth athletes, preserving Hawaiian culture, and strengthening our West Oʻahu community. Through this effort, we are raising funds to restore our koa racing canoe Honolulu—a vital part of our club’s heritage and a symbol of the traditions we strive to perpetuate.
Your partnership not only helps sustain these cultural and community programs but also provides meaningful visibility and engagement with hundreds of local families, athletes, and supporters who share a deep connection to our club and mission.

Built in 1980 by Tay Perry, the koa outrigger canoe Honolulu has long been part of Hawaiʻi’s paddling history and cultural legacy. Originally a canoe with the Honolulu Canoe Club, she carried generations of paddlers before joining the EPOCC ʻohana after being acquired by club co-founder Kauʻionalani Serrao in February 2003. More than a canoe, Honolulu represents Hawaiian craftsmanship, tradition, and identity.
When she joined EPOCC, it was clear that Honolulu had already fallen into disrepair, with extensive water damage, termite damage, and age-related wear. Over the past two decades, the canoe has been carefully stored and, at times, partially restored, reflecting both the complexity of the work and the commitment to preserving her. As our club has grown, so too has our ability and resolve to bring her fully back to life. Today, restoration is actively underway with master kālai wa’a Ron Lee.
As Head Coach Pua Serrao shares, “That is the mission of the Oahu Hawaiian Canoe Racing Association and our club — to perpetuate Hawaiian Outrigger Canoe Paddling. We paddle in koa. And a canoe belongs in the water. Also, the builders and revivers of koa, numbers are dwindling, we are lucky to have Ron who has been mentored by master carvers. So if not now, when? And if not us, who?”
This effort is about more than repair—it is about preserving a rare koa canoe so future generations can paddle, learn from, and stay connected to living history. Restoring Honolulu will strengthen cultural ties, inspire youth, and ensure her legacy continues for years to come.

The inaugural EPOCC Golf Tournament brings together West Side businesses, community members, and supporters for a shared purpose, raising funds to restore our historic koa racing canoe, Honolulu. This effort supports youth paddling development, equipment and canoe maintenance, race travel, cultural education, and the long term sustainability of our club. Your sponsorship not only helps return Honolulu to the water, but also reinforces your commitment to preserving Hawaiian culture and investing in a thriving local community.
